Class Overview
What does it mean to truly reinvent a class for the AI era?
In this session, I explored how we can move beyond simply adding AI tools to our existing class formats and instead reimagine what a class can be from first principles. Through case studies, group sharing, and live demonstrations, we examined how AI enables entirely new approaches to class design.
The three key takeaways that I’m most excited about
Turn student data into assets for personalize AI support
Turn student data into teaching support
Turn class transcripts into AI bots
#1. Turn student data into assets for personalized AI support
I now see class pre-work, interactions during the live class, and post-class work as opportunities to help students create data about themselves that will make their interactions with class-related AI bots more personalized and valuable. Said differently, every student response, question, and piece of feedback can be transformed into a bot that enhances the learning experience.
HACK: One student in the course who is a teacher has pioneered a really cool way to increase student participation:
1. Share mutes everyone
2. She asks a question
3. Students answer the question with their voice and then use AI (eg, SuperWhisper) to transcribe their voice into text.
4. Students Share their answers in the chat
This data can then be used by the teacher to learn from the class or create a bot.
#2. Turn student data into teaching support
By analyzing patterns of student interactions and response, teachers can:
Anticipate common questions and challenges
Plan out what to teach in each class
Prepare targeted interventions before problems arise
Design more effective learning sequences
#3. Turn class transcripts into AI bots
I now see class transcripts as fodder to create bots that students can use forever. More specifically, I now see each class as an opportunity to: (1) Create a bot that analyzes the transcript and identifies opportunities to create bots. (2) Create a bot that turns the bot opportunities into actual bots using the transcript.
During the full live class, we go into depth on each of these takeaways.
The takeaways reinvent course creation and course taking
Voice transcripts and chat transcripts are the new key assets from courses.
Course creators can promote the value of these and help students use them. Students can use transcripts to learn faster and better from classes.
To summarize, during this session, we:
Examined how to turn student participation into valuable assets
Studied approaches for creating class-specific learning bots
Investigated new models of AI-enhanced student engagement
Analyzed techniques for dynamic content adaptation during classes
Demonstrated AI tools for capturing and processing student insights
Created frameworks for AI-first class design
Explored methods for continuous class improvement through AI
Examined ways to transform class recordings into learning resources
Investigated systems for personalizing post-class follow-up
Whether you teach live classes, create online courses, or run workshops, you'll discover practical approaches for creating more valuable, personalized, and engaging learning experiences through AI.
