Wow! This 1965 video with legendary 20th century psychotherapist Fritz Perls is an intense and illuminating treasure.

It’s Intense Because…

In a very short period of time, Perls is able to find the patient's hot buttons, press those buttons, and then have a therapeutic intervention even while the patient is mad at him. At some parts, I question what he is doing. At other parts, I think what he's doing is genius.

It’s Illuminating Because...

It's not often we see a deep therapeutic encounter. Furthermore, it's not often we see such intensity not rapidly devolve into something counterproductive. So, it's interesting to see what's on the other side of the tension.

The session touched on the masks we all wear in front of others to get what we want or to feel comfortable. It also touched on how we're all full of contradictions. Finally, it touched on authentic self-expression.
